As the in-house product line for art supply distributors, Abacus Resources, Blue Acorn has a historic focus on quality materials at low prices. Maintaining low costs had always been the priority over brand and packaging, but in such a fiercely competitive market they needed to stand out and reach new audiences.
The previous product line was shipped under the Blue Acorn name but packaged in many different formats and styles, depending on the manufacturer. Our brief was to align the entire product catalogue of sketchbooks, notebooks and journals, canvases, pens, pencils and craft supplies into a new cohesive brand with a real sense of shelf appeal.
Working with a stationery line is a dream project for any design studio and we quickly realised that the quality line of products needed a packaging platform that lived up to it's standards.
While the packaging for the previous line differed between each product, Blue Acorn did already have a name and logo which they wanted to keep.
We refreshed the logo with a new aesthetic to make it more relevant to the market and help increase appeal.
The previous logo:
We created a brand and packaging platform that creates a strong, recognisable product range with real shelf appeal. Each product range’s packaging provides a platform to feature artists’ work which will be used to showcase UK talent. We created a series of designs for each of the 70+ products, working with Cumbrian creative, Kate Morrison. As the range expands and changes over time it provides a space to celebrates artists work, allowing different artists to be showcased as each new print of the packaging is required.
